About Us
Over a Century of Caring for Our Neighbors
Some businesses are built. Ours grew naturally — out of a community's needs, a craftsman's sense of duty, and a family's willingness to answer the call across generations. What began with skilled hands building coffins for neighbors in New Boston, Michigan has become over a century of devoted service to the families of the Wayne-Westland area.
We have never taken that trust lightly. Through changing addresses, changing partnerships, and changing times, one thing has remained constant: our belief that every family deserves to be treated with compassion, honesty, and dignity — not as customers, but as neighbors.
1800s — The beginning
The story starts in Huron Township, where the Uht family, master cabinetmakers by trade, began building coffins for area families who had experienced the loss of a loved one. It was a natural extension of their craft and their character: neighbors helping neighbors through life's hardest moments.
1925 — Coming to Wayne
Mantous Uht moved the business to the Village of Wayne, purchasing an existing funeral home near Wayne Road and Main Street. Over the following decades, the business grew, briefly operating as Uht-Kennedy Funeral Home in partnership with Harold Kennedy, before a new chapter began in 1952 with Harold Rediske Sr.
1967 — A new home in Westland
When the City of Wayne began its Urban Renewal Program, Uht Funeral Home built a new location at the corner of Glenwood and Harvey Street in Westland — the same location where we proudly serve families to this day.
1980 — The Rediske legacy
Harold Rediske Sr. passed the business to his son, Harold Rediske Jr., a proud Wayne Memorial High School alumnus, member of the Wayne Rotary and Wayne Masonic Lodge, and parishioner of St. Mary Catholic Church. Harold Jr. was as much a fixture of this community as the funeral home itself.
2018 — Today
Howie Rediske took ownership, and today he leads the funeral home alongside the fourth generation in their family, Mackenzie Rediske. Together, they carry forward more than a century of trust, ensuring that the warmth, integrity, and personal care that have defined Uht Funeral Home will endure for the families who need it most.
"We serve our community the same way we always have — as neighbors, as caregivers, and as family."
